Priorities
Prosperity
We find a way to care for everyone in our community, including our most vulnerable, without sacrificing our collective prosperity.
Issues:
- There is a lack of affordable housing. Grandkids won't be able to afford homes in neighbourhoods where their parents grew up.
- Food costs continue to rise. Many people don't know where they'll get their next meal and we need to address food deserts in our community. 58% of food is wasted and 1 in 4 children go to bed hungry.
- Working conditions are deplorable, wages don't support cost of living and we need better employment land - storage units don't employ a lot of people.
Solutions:
- We need to work with the city, the builders, the community, and non-profit organizations to find real creative solutions to this housing crisis.
- Promote & support Purpose Build Rental units.
- Food insecurity exists because of other root causes like low employment, housing, and transit. I will bring forward a motion, to eliminate food waste from grocery stores.
- We need fair working conditions, equitable wages and denser employment land to cut down long commutes. And training programs for the jobs of the future.
Safety
We find a way to build safe and resilient neighborhoods, blossoming with healthy connections, where children can run freely, we can walk and ride safely, and we can feel secure in our homes.
Issues:
- Increased car and house theft.
- Our Street safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers
- Public Safety related to gang and gun violence on the streets and TTC.
Solutions:
- Education programs to help owners learn how to protect their homes and vehicles, such as where to place their keys. Remove red tape at city hall for homeowners to install bollards.
- Proper infrastructure to support active lifestyles.
- Programs and safe spaces to support and train young people where they have hope and can learn what options are available to them. More mental health services available to help those in need.
Accountability
We will find a way to move into action by using our voice to bring accountability and responsiveness to the residents of Scarborough Southwest.
Issues:
- There is a lack of community consultation.
- Taxpayer money isn't being put into action for our neighbourhoods.
- Government needs to be responsive to the concerns and needs of the constituents.
Solutions:
- Bring in meaningful consultation to the community when it works for them. Find new ways to make us accessible through technology and different meeting times to accommodate people's lives.
- I have a proven record of being able to work with all levels of government to find funding and solutions to community needs.
- It's a promise to respond within 72 working hours to any requests sent to my office.
